Maya 2017 Mental Ray Error Plugin not loading

I'm really needing some help with my mental ray plugin no loading.

 

I'm getting this error in the terminal...

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Maya and Mental Ray and I am still getting this issue.

 

I am currently running a student version of Maya 2017 and as fart as I can tell there is not additional service packs that I can download to update Maya. I also have no clue how to check what my current version of Maya 2017 is.

 

I'd really appreciate help.

Hi Jeffrey, 

 

Thank you for responding so quickly. I've checked the other thread that you suggested and the only solution is to check the system requirements for mental ray, which I have done so and I don't see any problems. I have a brand new MacBook Pro 2016 model, if there is something in the requirements that I am missing would you mind pointing me in the right direction please,I would really appreciate any additional help you could provide. 

 

Alternatively, could this be a problem with the version of Maya 2017 and the version of Mental Ray I am running? Is there any easy way for me to check to make sure I am running version that are compatible with each other?

  1. Hi @Anonymous!

    Based on the script output, it looks like you are using the correct version of Mental Ray for Maya. Did you download Maya from the student site or your AD account? If it's the former, uninstall Maya and grab Update 4 from your account.

    If the error still persists (reinstall MR after Maya), then I would recommend hitting up the NVIDIA forums as they now control development and support of MR, not Autodesk. Make sure you have the latest MR from the download site!

Hi @Anonymous,

 

I downloaded Maya from the AD account. How do I know if it's Update 4? I only see one option for Maya on Mac, windows has lots of updates but not Mac.

 

I have tried uninstalling both Maya and Mental Ray and reinstalling. I've gone through the entire Maya uninstall process based on a link in another post. However, I couldn't find any information on the best way to uninstall Mental Ray, so it's unclear if I did a complete uninstall.

 

I will try the NVIDIA forums as well, thanks.

Hi!

 

Mental Ray does not work with Maya 2017 prior update 1, so you need to update Maya.

 

Check Version here:

Maya: Help -> About Maya -> "Version:..."

Hi @Anonymous

 

As @mspeer described, you should check the version of Maya through the About Maya menu. You can also review the splash screen on startup and it should say Maya 2017 Update 4 in the bottom left.

 

If you are not running Update 4, then most likely you are running 2017 Base which is not compatible with Mental Ray 2017 as @mspeer also pointed out. I've created the screen capture below for you which should help with getting Update 4. If you do not have the updates like I do in your account, then you're in a tough place and we'll have to figure out how to go on from there.

Thanks @Anonymous for all the help, I really appreciate it. It's frustrating not being able to get work done :/. 

 

I have tried that exact process and I don't appear to have any updates that explicitly say "Update ...". The only option I have is Maya 2017. My assumption is that this has something to do with the student account. 

 

Do you know how I can fix this or if there is someone I need to reach out to fix this?

Hi @Anonymous, thanks again for all your help.

 

I have tried doing what you've suggested and I don't see anything in my updates screen for a Mac Update 4. The only thing I see in my account is Maya 2017. My assumption is that this is related to it being a student account.

 

I'm not sure where to go from there since I'm obviously not the owner and am just a student. Do you have any ideas on how I can solve this?

Do you think you could host a 2017.4 Mac download for Diana? I would but I don't want to get into distributing issues as a non-AD employee.

 

And Diana, your issue is strange. I run a student account (both IT and individual) and the update shows up fine.

@Anonymous Thank you so SO much! That is exactly what I needed, I downloaded and installed the update 4 version and now mental ray works perfectly. Thank you for all your help, I really appreciate it. This has been an issue that I haven't been able to solve for months, you deserve some big virtual hugs!!

 

And @sean.heasley thanks for hosting that download for me! You've saved me from resorting to using Maya 2015. 🙂
