Maya 2017 hypershade becomes a small window, and reopening is blank

At the beginning, my hypershader window is blank. After I try to rename the folders like prefs and 2017. I get a small window for hypershader, but that is too small to work on that. It cannot be scale. If I close the window and reopen the hypershader, it will be blank again.

Hi!

1. Disable the onboard GPU in your system/OS.

2. Try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2018 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2018 to 2018_backup (or even the maya folder to maya_backup). Maya creates new folders (don't copy preferences from previous Maya versions). Detailed at:

Have you tried removing your preference files?

Go to your preferences folder....

C:\Users\Public\Documents\maya\2017\prefs

delete windowPrefs.mel file?

I would make a copy of your  userPrefs.mel and then delete it as well as when I start seeing weird features of maya happening it usually comes from this file being corrupt.

Hi,

I tried to delete the prefs file, and also try renaming the file name 2017 to 2017Old and 2017_backup. However, that is only work for the first time open the hypershader, and the window is small as the first screenshot. and if I close the window and reopen the hypershader, it will be blank as second screenshot

Hi @Anonymous

You said your GPU was up to date but what version is it? Our officially supported version for the 1070 is 382.33

Here is how you can check your GTX 1070 driver version number:

  1. Open your Start Menu and type Device Manager
  2. Under the 'Display Adapters' tab right click your gpu and select 'Properties'
  3. Under the Details tab you will see Driver Version.

It's also possible that while you have updated your GPU drivers in the past, the old ones may still be hanging around causing this issue. So I'd recommend (as do Nvidia) uninstalling the old drivers before installing any new ones.

Nvidia have an article with steps on how to do so and can be found here.

Once you have completed the steps above download the Maya 2018 certified driver 382.33, install it, then check the version number repeating steps 1-3 above. If all is well then fire up Maya and check your viewport.

Please let me know if this resolved the issue, if not I’ll be happy to keep working with you.

Hi,

I checked the NVIDIA Graphics Driver version is 387.92. It shows on the control panel, where you can uninstall/change

Those are steps to uninstall the driver. Once you have uninstalled the driver, you can install our officially supported driver.

The download for the driver can be found here!

Hi @Anonymous

Hmmm, its possible you missed a step. I'll post them below again and you can follow them to uninstall/reinstall the driver

Here is how you can check your GTX 1070 driver version number:

  1. Open your Start Menu and type Device Manager
  2. Under the 'Display Adapters' tab right click your gpu and select 'Properties'
  3. Under the Details tab you will see Driver Version.

Once you have completed the steps above download the Maya 2018 certified driver 382.33, install it, then check the version number repeating steps 1-3 above. If all is well then fire up Maya and check your viewport.

Please let me know if this works!

Hi,

I just follow the steps and did it again. It has seen the version is not working well on my laptop. The install looks like not completed, and the graphics version now is 378.66

Hi @Anonymous

That's unusual because that driver is the supported version for GTX cards.

You may want to disable your HD integrated graphics first.

Steps to do so can be found here!

Hi,

I think that is not working. Thank you for the help.

I am using my friend's pc to work, and at the end of this term, I am not using MAYA for the future course.
