Maya 2016 - Separator on Shelf

I was editing my custom shelf, since it was a mess I thought I could add that line (separator) that Maya's default shelfs have, but I couldn't figure it out.

I read this thread on the same topic, but I couldn't understand how to do it:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-general/2016-adding-separators-to-shelves/td-p/5608220

I also realized that Maya Bonus Tools 2016 has it integrated, but I don't want to install that plug-in / extension just for a separator, so I was wondering if someone could please guide me through adding a separator to my custom shelf using MEL, that would be awesome, easy steps please ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi !

Create a custom shelf, save all shelfs, exit Maya and add in "your_shelf.mel" in "user"\Documents\maya\2016\prefs\shelves

This:

    separator
        -enable 1
        -width 12
        -height 35
        -manage 1
        -visible 1
        -preventOverride 0
        -enableBackground 0
        -style "shelf"
        -horizontal 0
    ;

Look my script shelf and my custom shelf !

will add it to the currently selected shelf:

import maya.cmds as cmds
selectTabIndex = cmds.optionVar(q='selectedShelf')
shelfName = cmds.optionVar(q='shelfName%s' % selectTabIndex)
cmds.setParent(shelfName)
cmds.separator(width=12, height=35, style='shelf', hr=0)
