Maya 2016 crash on start

Hello. I have maya 2016 installed on a student license.

It frequently crashes on startup and I cannot understand why.

In order for me to get it to start up again I have to delete (or rename) my user prefs which is really inconvenient.

When maya is launched it displays the outline of a dialogue box with no visible content and then I get another windows messge saying that It has crashed.

Has anybody encountered this problem? What additional information do I need to provide to get assistance?

Welcome to the community @Anonymous!

Sorry to hear about the issue. Have you tried updating your graphics card driver? You could also try updating your Visual C++. Could you also provide your system specs?

Hi @Anonymous,

Please note that Windows 10 is not yet officially supported by Maya. That being said, you may also want to make sure your Maya service pack is up to date.

Hello, the content of the  mystery error box is now visible for some reason.

Licensing Error Unable to initialize adlm

Internal Error Message: <Error initializing the Usage Tracking component.>

Error Code: <104>

This might not be the same error since I have never gotten to see the message before. Also Maya did not instantly crash when the error message appeared.

Edit: it crashed as per usual when I closed it an ran it again.

Hi @Anonymous,

It could be a trusted source issue. Try running as the administrator. Also, please note once more that Windows 10 is not officially supported.

It seemed to be a permission thing after all.

I had this problem before I updated to windows 10 So i am pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with the update.

Running the appilcation as administrator seems to have solved the problem.

The specific trigger was setting the project to a directory other than default. Once I run it as administrator it stopped crashing. Thanks a lot.
