Maya 2012 Batch Render Not Rendering

I have a file that I've been trying to put together a rough test render for and Batch Render is not cooperating. I've seen a bunch of threads along these lines, but none of the solutions seem to work out.

Currently I'm just trying to render 1 frame from each render layer with Batch to get the overall look. I can Batch Render the individual frames with Software Render, and I can render individual layers in the Render vView Window. But Batch Render with mental ray settings is not working. It says it starts to render, waits a few moments, and says Render Complete, but produces nothing. Console shows the following:

Starting "/Applications/Autodesk/maya2012/Maya.app/Contents/bin/maya"

mental ray for Maya 2012
mental ray: version 3.9.1.48, Dec 7 2011, revision 162457

Any ideas?

Also, I'm on a Mac and running Yosemite, in the past, I've deleted the User preferences, but since the office updated to Yosemite, there is no maya2012 user preferences folder to delete and reset the program. Any ideas where it might have gone to?

As a follow-up test, I've created a completely new file and new scene. Created a cube, moved it slightly and set two keys and it gives me the same error, which leads me to think the problem is in Maya/mental ray/batch render.

In the ongoing saga... I've

-figured out how to delete/reset preferences.

-imported scene data into clean file.

-run render diagnostics (comes back 0 errors)

-deleted history and optimized scene (sometimes fixes random issues, nope)

-double checked all file links

-finally resorted to uninstalling and reinstalling Maya 2012 and service pack updates. Console continutes to show:

A bit more information, I brought the file home with me to test on a machine with the same Maya setup, but without Yosemite and it worked just fine. So the problem is either specific to Yosemite or my work machine...

I have exactly the same issue with my new os El Capitan

Any advice appreciated
