Map Size vs Texture Resolution

I'm doing UV maps for one of my models now. I see an option "Map Size" in UV Toolkit.

I've set it to 2048 cos I want 2k textures on my model. This is how I understand texture resolution in Maya.

Now what if I select the texture resolution as 512k or even 4k in Substance painter and apply that to this model?

Will substance painter downscale 4k textures cos I've set the UVs themselves are 2048 in Maya?

or is the map size setting only useful when you texture the model in Maya?

Also, I'm assuming "packing resolution" under Layout options has nothing to do with actual texture resolution of the model. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi!

The texture resolution is only dependent on the resolution of the texture itself.

Sometimes resolution settings in UV Editor are used for edits relative to pixel values, but this has nothing to do with the resolution that will be used for rendering.
