Looking to return to Maya

So I began learning Maya 10 years ago at school. Ended up exploring other areas, and then returned to Maya via an online Tutoring program which was at the time known as Digital-Tutors. Since then, they are now known as Pluralsight. I am looking to going back to continue where I left off with learning Maya for a potential career change.

What I am seeking out is a way to obtain a license to allow me to do this. As of now I am considering going back to that online tutoring program. But it doesn't appear that you can obtain an EDU License for anything outside a School/Institution.

Anyone who has been in my position before have any suggestions on how to get back in to using Maya? I cannot afford to purchase any other license at the moment. And I would prefer to stick with Maya over any other Modeling software since it is what I am most familiar with. I am seeking out a license strictly for educational purposes only, and not commercial use nor for a profit whatsoever. I just am not in a position to return to any school at the moment, plus that tutoring program taught me so much in such a great way, I would love to return to it. I just need Maya to do so.

Hi!

If you are mainly interested in modeling, then Maya LT could be the solution (this should be affordable), at least for learning and training of modeling in Maya.

Autodesk offers nothing for free unless your a student or teacher at a school

your only option is buy a license or look at competitors

What are the biggest differences between Maya and Maya LT?

I know you mentioned that you aren't in a position to return to school, but you might want to check and see if there is a maya class at your local community college. You can take just the one class, and a lot of times you can find a Saturday class, or a night class, or an online class so that it works with your schedule. While you are enrolled, you should be able to qualify to use the student license for learning purposes. Hope that helps!

Indeed I actually just started a search for this very thing. I am in between jobs at the moment, and it has made me really think about what I want to do after exploring many areas. When I realized how much I miss learning Modeling in Maya, I made the decision I want to go back and finish learning it, and pursue it as a career. So for starters I was going to return to the tutoring I once did. But I am now looking into schooling options to see what is available.
