Insert Edge Loop problem (Maya 2016)

Hi,

Recently I have been getting an issue where I will use 'insert edge loop' tool and it will not actually let me insert the edge loop. When I click on an edge it will appear to snap to the nearest edge and refuse to let me move it. Upon dropping the tool, I notice that it did not even create an edge at all.

I attached a screenshot, that is the best I can describe it. The only way I can fix it is to delete my Prefs, but it always comes back (randomly). Is it possible I am turning on a setting that acts like this? Or is this a bug possibly?

yep, it's happening to mee too. It's definitely related to preferences. I had to copy some preferences from SP1 into the SP3 Maya at work and it definitely has some bad impact. I knew it might cause small problems so i made myself a backup for the old preferences. I'll replace some of them , see what happens. Try doing this too.

The next time that happens, try using the multi-cut tool with control-left click. (another way of inserting an edge loop.) See if that lets you insert the loop where you want it.

Thanks for the reply. I will definitely try this out when I run into the problem again, very cool tool with multi-cut. Didn't know it could do that.

Cool tip with multi cut ,thanks. The insert loop tool problem seems to be happening only in Sp1 , in Sp3 it's not happening.
