Imported models not appearing in the scene but does in the

Hi there, I would like to find out why is certain FBX and OBJ's exported from 3D's Max and Archicad (OBJ only) are  not showing in my scene view in maya but they can be seen in the list panel of my object in my scene view. when i press the hot key (F) to focus on the current select object, it appears for 1 second or less and than dessapears again. I activate the Verts, Edges and Faces count in my view to atleast see if it could even determine if there is an object selcted, but it shows numbers also for 1 second when I press the focus key then it dessapears. 

Somebody advise me wht is my way around this issue?

If the object appears for one second it might be that is off from the center of world in maya, maybe is huge or maybe is being hidden by the camera clipping plane, set the far clipping to a large amount ,...also try to scale down the object from the channel box...see if that helps.
