Hi @veeramani4

This was solved in another thread so it should be easy for you! I'll post the solutions from that thread below as well!

You can edit your Windows registry by running regedit.

Set HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.htm to ChromeHTML

(Note: Since you use Firefox sadly FirefoxHTML wont work, one user used FirefoxHTML-308046B0AF4A39CB)

You can also manually do this inside of Maya in the script editor by running this code:

import _winreg
htm = _winreg.OpenKey(_winreg.HKEY_CURRENT_USER,"SOFTWARE\\Classes\\.htm", 0, _winreg.KEY_ALL_ACCESS)
_winreg.SetValueEx(htm, '', 0, 1, "ChromeHTML")
_winreg.CloseKey(htm)

Please let me know if this solves your issue or if you need any more assistance!

Hi @veeramani4

I'm a little bit confused. Did you get an error saying the names weren't typed correctly?

Did you type them out as ChromeHTML or FirefoxHTML?

Let me know if anything changes!

Ah my mistake! I thought it was firefox you were trying to switch to not Edge.

Do you have any other browser installed? Generally Maya will open either your default web browser or Internet Explorer.

Is edge set to be your default browser?

Hi @veeramani4

I need a bit more information to make sure there isn't anything weird happening with your browsers.

  • Yes to Edge being your default browser?
  • Do you have any other browsers installed or only edge?
  • What browser is opening when you launch the help tool?

Let me know when you get a chance!

Hi @veeramani4

Do you have Chrome installed?

In the code I provided,

import _winreg
htm = _winreg.OpenKey(_winreg.HKEY_CURRENT_USER,"SOFTWARE\\Classes\\.htm", 0, _winreg.KEY_ALL_ACCESS)
_winreg.SetValueEx(htm, '', 0, 1, "ChromeHTML")
_winreg.CloseKey(htm)

Did you copy it exactly like this so it says ChromeHTML?

Also what version of Maya are you running? This code works in Maya 2018 but I don't believe it works in earlier versions of Maya.

Please let me know when you get a chance!

Hi @veeramani4

I'm not sure if it is possible for Edge to be the default browser for the Maya Help menu.

When you get a chance, can you please provide me with some more information

  • What version of Maya are you using?
  • Do you have any browsers installed other than Edge?

Please let me know if anything changes!

hi

Changing the registry did not work for me.

Windows has done some underhanded things with its "default browser" settings in Windows 10.

Not only do you need to change the default browser but you also have to change the file type association with .htm and .html

Do this by opening settings and searching "Choose default apps by file type" then scroll down to .htm and .html and change it to whatever you'd like.
