I have Worked in Maya 2013 and 2014 - as well as Maya 8  Maya 8 is where I have been just bringing

my preferences from each upgrade so I have no idea how I was able to do the following: I have customize marking menu just fine, but I find when I hit the space bar, that default menu UI also pops up and it is annoying to me. Somehow, I was able to hide that so when I hit the space bar just MY marking menus show up. I have no idea what I did to make the default UI invisible. Please help. I have my hands full learning Arnold and other new things since 2014 and have spent hours trying to hide the default menu that pops up on hitting the space bar

LOL! yes, that is it. I knew it was super simple but I did it like 15 years ago. I have been moving my prefs from version to version. In fact I think I would be lost if I ever tried to make my marking menus again because I don't know where anything is anymore . Thanks for the video as it is good to know. When maya asked me to import settings it detected from version 2014, it brought in the marking menus and shelves only. I later copied a couple other "prefs" files over to 2017 and that got rid of the default menu pop up leaving me just the little square that says "maya" in it. But glad you showed me how because it was driving me crazy not knowing how it did once upon a time

Hmmmm, now prehaps help me with another issue. Hotkey prefs keep reverting back to default every time I open maya 2017. I think it is a known issue from what I read online. No big deal I just scroll down to my saved prefs. Tried making a mel button to do it but no luck

we can use different set of hotkey for etch workspace,

check the current workspace

there are an option to chose a set of hotkeys for your workspace

maybe your's on "Maya default"

mY goodness. I have been working in Maya since back when it was Power Animator in 1998. 22 years and about 5 versions and I just realize how little I actually know. So use to porting my prefs from older versions I don't know where anything is . But my hotbox now solved, my hotkey prefs loading when I open maya , and the other problem was not being able to move UVs in uv editor. I could rotate and scale but when I tried to move, just the handle moved and no uv.I found the solution in a 10 year old post "

Go to : Windows\Settings/Preferences\Performance Setting.

In Dependency Graph Evaluation, select "Drag" radio button"

mine was set to "demand".

Thanks again for your help!!! I'm all set. Now I just need to learn Arnold
