I am still trying to adjust to Maya after working a while with 3DS Max. I am attempting to move a vertex or several verticies along an edge. I know in Max you could turn on Constraint to Edge and that would work. I tried to do research on this topic and the sources said to hold "C" and the middle mouse button. However, that does not seem to work in my case. Am I doing something wrong?
I think what you are looking for is under the tool settings of the move tool>Transform Constraint>Edge...try the options, usually one will select that to move vertex along the surface without changing the surface shape.
As a side note, remember to delete your history and work with .ma files not .mb.
