Grease Pencil crashing Maya

I've been trying to use grease pencil for the last two days but every time I use it Maya crashes. I have restarted the computer, closed and opened Maya, created a new scene, but nothing works. It still crashes whenever I use it.

I know this is old, but it still happens even in 2023. I am struggling with it daily in my work. reviewing anims with folks on zoom, then boom, I forget and scrub or play and maya crashes. blue pencil is fantastically useful, but it seems to get messed up with certain unknown combinations of prefs?

I'd like to know more about this crash with Blue Pencil.  Can you provide more details?  What are the steps to make it crash? Which OS?  Do you have a crash log?

Thanks Kelly. I ended up getting assisted by autodesk support, and it has
been confirmed that this is a bug in maya 2023 and 2023.1 where the
combination of blue pencil, graph editor open, and updating viewports (play
or scrub) while the cursor is over a viewport 2.0 cause the crash.

afaik, it's been logged. I've closed my request due to the work around of
keeping graph editor closed while using blue pencil

Hi rocky7UKUM,   I believe I was the one to log the issue.   When I first tested, I did crash and so I logged the bug.  But, I am having a difficult time repeating the crash.  Is this something you hit all the time?  Are you able to give me a repro video?  There is some detail to the workflow I am missing.

Hey Kelly,
If you logged the bug after Marko S. was helping me troubleshoot, then it
could have been you.

the steps to reproduce:
1. open a new scene
2. open the graph editor
3. activate blue pencil tool and draw a frame
4. scrub/play (or cause the viewport to update in anyway) WHILE the blue
pencil cursor is hovering over a viewport

I use alt+v to play/pause, so it's much easier to encounter this problem.
Pressing the play button in Maya's UI prevents the cursor from being on a
viewport, so doesn't crash it.

Hi! I'm also having problems with the blue pencil in Maya 2023, on a MacBook Air. Every time I use it, I can't do anything else afterwards. I press Q or change tools, it changes them, and I can see the manipulators, but I can't use them or select anything. I even select the controlers from the outliner, but same thing, can't move anything.

I did have the graph editor open and my viewports were in 2.0. I had to close Maya and open it again. 

Also, I work with a XP-Pen Artist 22R Pro, and when drawing, the line is way off from the tip of the pen, but as a cursor I can click anything and that is ok, but with the blue pencil, it goes like 7 cm away. And I tried to find what Maya says to change in Preferences, but I couldn't find anything about Tablets (what Maya says: set the Tablet API setting in the Interface Preferences to Wintab).

Hello,

This issue: "MAYA-125362 Crash using Blue Pencil when playing back with Graph Editor open" is fixed as of Maya 2023 Update 3.

What version of Maya are you currently experiencing these issues on?  I will try to reproduce on a machine similar to yours, but I'd like to confirm which issues are reproducible in the last update for 2023.

Hello,

We were not able to reproduce the issues you describe on a Mac with a tablet.  Can you test the workflow using your Mac but with a mouse?
