File node -> Use Image Sequence not working with keyframes

Hi,

using Maya 2018.1 under Windows 7, we can’t hand keyframe the Use Image Sequence anymore. Or better, we can set keyframes, but Maya did get confused and did not load the images. We also changed the name schema several times, but that doesn’t help either.

Works fine with 2017. Can anyone confirm this behavior?

The expression that is created automatically when ticking the Use Image Sequence option works fine. But we want manual control.

Thanks,
Lars

Hi @SequenzGmbH and welcome to the community!

This sounds pretty unusual, by chance do you have a scene file you could share here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it?

Also, you could try updating to Update 2 of 2018 to see if that solves your issue!

Let me know if anything changes!

Hi Sean,

had used the wrong account to log in.

But unfortunately updating to Maya 2018.2 did not changed the problem.

It is really strange: When we set the keyframes the "box" in the AE get red as it should, but after changing the time the next time we go to the keyframe the box is orange... attached two screenshots.

Can't send you the current scene as it is. But I can try to stripe it down.

I will check if that also happens with a fresh scene, as all the scenes that behavior that way are Maya 2017 scenes. No, just test it: With a fresh scene everything works like expected.

Strange! Any idea?

Okay, just found the "bad" setting:

The Evaluation mode was set to "Parallel". After switching back to "DG" the animated texture is evaluated fine.

Is this a known issue?

What is odd: With DG as Evaluation mode the frame rate drops about 50%.

Why does the "Use Image Sequence" expression works fine under Parallel mode, but the keyframe solution not?

Thanks for any enlightenment,

Lars

Hi @Anonymous

First off, the orange ish color you showed in your screenshot. That usually means Maya is recognizing the change and waiting for you to key another frame. Once the frame is keyed the color should shift back to the solid red.

I'm not sure why the Image Sequence wasn't working with DG evaluation but I'm going to do some testing and check with our dev team to see if this is an issue and/or by design.

Hi Sean,

just to make sure: The keyframed image sequence was not working with parallel mode. With DG mode it works.

Lars

Hi @Anonymous

I did some testing and didn't notice any issues.

When you get a chance, can you please zip and attach the scene file here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it?

Hi Sean,

after some more testing it seems that it could be a VRay problem, because with a Blinn it works also in Parallel mode.

We will contact Chaosgroup and see what they say.

Best,

Lars
