Hi, I've been having trouble importing fbx files into maya - this here was originally a pmx file that I converted to an fbx so that I could open it in maya (2020 version). Original pmx downloaded from here
The issue I'm having is that, whenever I try to import the fbx into maya, it loads in the character rig but not the mesh attached to it. I can view the mesh in windows 3D viewer and I even managed to open them in substance painter, so I'm not sure what's going wrong here. The outliner doesn't seem to have any object meshes in it either. (I used tr0007_Volo for these screenshots. I also tried importing tr0003_Adaman to see if the issue was just with the one character but I had the same results.)
I also tried importing the models via mmd4maya, but I couldn't work out how to use the plugin and couldn't find a tutorial that covered the issue I was having with it. If there is a way to get the model imports via mmd4maya I would appreciate it, but I would prefer not to use it if I can have the fbx meshes appear. (I'm also a bit of a noob when it comes to maya, so if this is just a simple issue I'm overlooking I'm sorry)

I can confirm this happening in M2019:
Converted file from PMX to FBX online - AnyConvert;
Win10 3DViewer displays the mesh;
In Maya upon importing the stats are shown, indicating 202 elements, 7 mats and 7 texs.
File reads 100%, initializes, outputs object loading msgs:
progressBar -edit -status "Importing objects... eye" -step 1 $gMainProgressBar;
outputs transform loading msgs, no warnings, no errors.
However, the scene consists of empty groups and joint hierarchies, no shaders, no shapes.

Managed to import the file into blender and export it as a new fbx, which opened properly in maya. Thank you!
