Divide a blednshape into segments

Hi, I was wondering if there's a way in Maya 2017 to get different blendshapes from one base blendshape. I have a blendshape that affects the whole body of the mesh and I want to divide it into segments (even better if it can use the skin weight values), is that possible?

So far I tried to duplicate it and then mask it into the different sections but then the parts where the different segments meet are affected more than what I intend them to.

Rather then using blendshapes have you consider using a displacement map with animated masks to hide and reveal certain areas of the map with controllers. People use the above method for wrinkle maps on faces but it could be modified to get what your looking for.
