Closest Point on Mesh node doesn't seem to function as expected

Hi, I'm using "closest point on mesh", and it works fine if there is no transform on the geometry object.

 

If there is, it responds erratically. I'm sure this is something to do with the matrix I'm plugging in. I've tried every combination of options here and I can't make it work. 

 

Has anyone got any experience in making sure the closestPointOnMesh matrix is correctly calculated?

Can you please post a screenshot of your nodegraph with annotations showing what is plugged in to what?
Please also explain what you mean by "responds erratically"

I'd love this fixed as well. The closetPointOnSurface node is making some assumptions about the input surface's UV range. See images below:
