channel box buttons

What are these...?

coeuscreative_0-1630282191100.png

The manual doesn't say anything about them as far as I can see and as there's no description in Maya when you hover over something, not even a name, I wouldn't know what to google for.

Yeah these can be pretty confusing at first, they basically refer to how the middle mouse button works when you select an attribute in the channel box and use middle mouse drag in the viewport to affect that attribute's value.

It is actually easier to show than explain, so here is a brief explanation of each with a supporting gif. I use a cube against a grid, then select the translateX attribute to show the relationship between the middle mouse movement and the amount the attribute is affected.

  1. manipulator.jpg Chanel box attribute manipulator. This determines how the middle mouse button drag option works when you have an attribute selected in the channel box. You can have it set to show the manipulator, hide the manipulator, or completely disable the middle mouse option. (See manipulator.gif).

  2. sliderSpeed.jpg Slider Speed settings. This lets you determine how fast the middle mouse button increases / decreases the selected attribute when using the middle mouse. (See sliderSpeed.gif).

  3. hyperbolic.jpg Switch between linear and hyperbolic slider. Basically, linear means when you use the middle mouse button the relationship between the distance the mouse moves and the increase in the attribute value remains at a constant. Hyperbolic means that the more you move your mouse, the greater the value will change. (See Hyperbolic .gif)

Hope that clears it up a little.

No problem. Ther should be a short description when you hover, have you tried enabling tool tips in the preferences?
