Camera Tracking issue

Hello,

Problem: I have tracked a piece of footage in After Effects that has 300 frames. I then through live link imported 4 Null points and the camera into Maya. In Maya, I have created "dummy objects" to test out if it would hold up to the wall (please refer to screenshot). I need the objects to not move during the whole duration of the 300 frames. The objects do not move in Maya, however as soon as I render it as a TIFF sequence and open it in After Effects to check the final result, the object is moving. I have checked the framerate in Maya and in After Effects and everything is correct. How is that possible and what could be the solution for this?

Software & System: I am using Maya 2018 Student Version and Adobe After Effects CC 2018 on a PC

Thank you

What is your frame rate?

I think it's not related to Maya, it's related to Aftereffects, if you are shooting in 29.97 or 23.97 fps you might face problems because you are rendering frames in Maya and not subframes.

Try to render your original footage as sequence first, then import the rendered sequence to a new 24, 25 or 30 FPS Comp as needed, then do the camera tracker and continue from there.

Hope this will help

Hey there

The frame rate I am using is 25fps. I am following that workflow and the objects are still moving... I have chosen different null points and now the object doesn't move as much as before but it is still moving a bit - even though the null points in AE look very still. Can the problem be related to the settings of the virtual camera?

Thank you

Hello,

The problem might be related to aftereffects camera, be sure that the camera keyframes are constant(look like sqaures) before exporting to maya.

If you can share your project maybe I can help too.

If you can use another software for camera tracking like nuke, because Ae isn't a good software for camera tracking and it's verry limited, and finally your footage might be too plane(it doesn't have parallax ) for a good camera traking.

Welcome ☺️

Hi Hdiab

I have similar issue but little bit different. I exported camera from Nuke to Maya, but the problem is my CG is some how rotating around itself. It may not been very obvious, but with little concertation in my show you may notice it. What do you think could be a reason to make make my CG rotate around itself. My camera solve is 0.3 error. pretty solid, right?

Here is a link to my shot

Thank you in advance.

hello,
I really don't see to where your model is rotating around it self, maybe the model is misplaced in respect to the ground so it feels rotating.
and again the tracked shot is has a verry subtle movement and verry little parallax.

If you can observe the reflection on the window you may see the rotation.

I think I need to re-track the shot with correct settings, as I noticed difference between the shot FPS and my project setting. Maybe this what causing the issue?

I will keep you posted.
