Hi,

at my company, we are considering switching from Modo to Maya. We use Modo to make high quality renders for packaging from CAD data, typically STEP and Parasolid. This CAD data is usually exported from Creo.

I'm curious whether Maya can import these formats natively and how successful it is at performing this.

Thanks

Sean

Hi @Anonymous! Welcome to the community!

STEP and Parasolid can be both natively imported to Maya. In order to round up this information, this is the list of all the file formats which are supported by Maya.

Moreover, my suggestion is to download the trial version of Maya 2019, so that you can test it for 30 days with your projects.

STEP has different types and not all of them work properly when importing into Maya. You could use Meshmatic3D to open the STEP, optimize and cleanup and export as STEP for Maya. Here is a quick video. Hope it helps.
