Autodesk maya - material attributes not working

I have to brand new laptops where autodesk maya 2017 is installed. On both we have the same problem

please see the picture. When clicking on the icon marked with green, nothing happends - on other pc´s this function works. Anyone can help?

sometimes it's minor problem, try quiting Maya and re-open your scene, if not working try to quit it again and create new scene use import command uncheck namespace and use crashing nodes, if not working try to delete preference folder located in

"C:\Users\yourname\Documents\maya\2017\pref"

re-launch maya and see what happens.

Beyond that what about using other methods like hypershade window.....? You could use create tab of hypershade, create any attribute you wanna drive material and use MMB click and drag to do your work.
