Arnold Renderer, failed to initialize

Hi, just downloaded the latest version of Maya 2017.  I'm on Windows 10 64 bit.  Maya installs fine.

After opening Maya and letting things load I get the error message "Warning: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2017/scripts/others/supportRenderers.mel line 64: The renderer "arnold" used by this scene, is not currently available. The "mayaSoftware" renderer will be used instead."

So I have gone into the plug-in manager and see the mtoa.mll is unchecked.  So when I tick Loaded or Auto load i get the following error:

"// Error: Failed to register Arnold swatch renderer //
// Error: line 1: initializePlugin function failed (mtoa) //"

I have tried doing a repair on my maya install.  Tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling and also tried downloading the latest version of arnold directly from solidangle and deleting and reinstalling that but all these things won't work.  I also read that arnold needs a CPU that can support SSE 4.2 which mine does (Intel i7 5930K)

Can anyone help me get this working please?  If you require any further information or have something for me to try please let me know.

University student going into a new year so really need to get this working asap. Thank you.

There is another thread that, while it says "solved" is not solved for many of us.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/shading-lighting-and-rendering/arnold-maya-2017-doesn-t-load-quot-not-...

appears to be something wrong with the update installer for some of us.

I ran across a similar issue, so if you've installed the latest Maya 2017 update 1 then you need to install the latest update 1.3.1.1 from Solidangle.

https://support.solidangle.com/display/AFMUG/1.3.1.1
(This Version is needed to run on Maya 2017 Update 1. Previous versions will fail to load due to changes in Maya's API)

Yes I have the latest version of Arnold 1.3.1.1 and latest Maya update 2017 update 1. Still getting the same error as before:

"// Error: Failed to register Arnold swatch renderer //
// Error: line 1: initializePlugin function failed (mtoa) //"

Maya 2017 Update 1 installs the Arnold 1.3.1.1 update automatically. You should not need to get it from Solidangle.

You're absolutely right! Apologies for the misinformation.

Has Autodesk updated the installer? because... regarding downloading from Solid Angle, their downloads page says this about downloading 1.3.1.1 which was not the version that came with my download of Maya 2017 Update 1.  I got 1.3.1.0:

"This Version is needed to run on Maya 2017 Update 1. Previous versions will fail to load due to changes in Maya's API"

Aha! Maybe that's why not everyone is having the issue. I didn't download the 2017 update on the first day, because as usual, Autodesk didn't send any notification of its availability. Both my Windows and OS X versions came with 1.3.1.1.

I downloaded mine on the 18th via the Desktop App. And the 1.3.1.1 was not posted on Solid Angle's website at that time.

When did you download yours?

I don't know if this applies to your case, but I had the same exact errors with Arnold on my Mac. After spending hours finding a solution I found a topic where they suggested to delete PyMel file, so I did it and finally Arnold started working again.
