Animation curve

Hi, I'm just starting out trying to learn Maya. The online tutorial is frustratingly out of date! Here's the latest problem I've run into: I've just begun the animation portion of the tutorial and I'm creating a bouncing ball animation but the animation moves slower at the beginning and at the end. Here's a picture with my animation on top and the tutorial's animation on the bottom.Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 5.41.16 PM.png

As you can see, mine is curvy instead of straight. Changing the tangents to "linear" straightens the lines out but the animation still doesn't move at a uniform speed, particularly at the end. I'm assuming this is a setting?

- Setting your x-curve to linear did most of the job.

- Then you need to make the time between the first two keys much shorter since it takes the ball the same time to travel up as travel down. Would be odd when it takes a long time to bounce up but then comes down fast. This is also wrong in the screenshot of the tutorial you shared.

- I also noticed that your y-curve eases in and out when the ball is hitting the ground. So you need to break and adjust the tangents of the lower curve points to a much sharper angle so the ball doesn't slow down before it is hitting the ground. You can also set the lower points (contacts) to linear.

Also make sure that you have set the playback speed to "real time" and not "every frame"

Preferences/Settings/Time Slider/Playback/Real-time (24 fps)
