Akamai NetSession Client

Hey,

   I have just installed Maya 2017 and during installation process , a Windows Firewall popped up , denying access to Akamai NetSession Client. I just needed to ask ,is it safe?If it is, is there really a need to install it along with the software? I mean, if I dont allow it access,will it restrict use of any Maya tools/features or mess up the software?

That's used to accelerate the download of the installer, its built around a file-sharing utility program.  Its found with downloads from a great many places these days.  It has nothing to do with running the program.  See https://www.akamai.com/us/en/solutions/products/media-delivery/netsession-interface-faq.jsp

Many users, especially those in a corporate environment, will try to find a way around it, or ensure its disabled (if not removed entirely) after use.

Akamai Netsession is a Content Delivery Network and you shouldn't remove it because it helps you download the files at a much higher download speed. It is by no means a virus.
