AiToon not showing on viewport

Hey,

I was trying to use aiToon in maya 2020 with arnold 6 but the result is not showing in the viewport. I have to use the renderer to see outlines and even base color.

Shouldn't I be able to see this shader previewed on the viewport?

Hi!

"Shouldn't I be able to see this shader previewed on the viewport?"

- This would be nice, but aiToon is not supported in Viewport 2.0, so you have to render this in Arnold for a preview.

Thanks! I assumed it would since aiStandardSurface works.

It's a bug, it should at least pass along base color like any other material.  It's not a very well-supported shader, it feels like something they just sort of threw in one release...

To get color in the viewport you can create a separate viewport material (use anything, lambert is fine).  Connect that material's outColor to surfaceShader on the shadingEngine node (replacing the aiToon connection), and connect aiToon.outColor to aiSurfaceShader, so Arnold would use it.  It's a pain, but it works.  You can do that for any shader that has poor viewport support.
