Xgen Anim Wires not working

Xgen Anim Wires not working

This is my first xgen project. I love the power of xgen but I'm still trying to figure out a simple and clean workflow. I have a character that I animated. I then cached the animation out in a Geo cache, which I then imported onto a clean mesh with xgen attached to it. When I use the Primitives>Guide Animation it works just fine. However, I want to mask out some of the dynamics around the eyes so I tried using the AnimWires modifier to accomplish this. When the model has no animation, the Anim Wires work fine. When I import the geo cache onto my model, only some of the curves move with it, and xgen explodes. I also get the error: Multiple cvs on primitives are bound to the last cv of the wire...

Here is what I have tried:

Cached the hair output curves with an alembic cache and attached it to the anim wires instead of using live mode. same result.

Building the hair system after bringing in the animation cache. This works to keep all of the curves attached but as soon as I hit Attache Hair System xgen explodes again.

Building the Anim Wires on the rig directly before caching out animation. The anim wires work only if they start in the same position they were attached on. If I move the character at all on the first frame xgen explodes.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to test this. Or, if there is a way I can mask out dynamics using the Primitives>GuideAnimation.

Also if my workflow is wrong, I would love to know the correct pipeline workflow for xgen.

Thanks!

Does the cache have UV's ? nHair follicles need the mesh to have clean UV's and I've seen problems where animated caches either have no UV's or the UV's distort over time.

Try importing the cache into Maya and use create a blend shape so that the cache drives the XGen geometry, rather than apply the cache to the geo directly.

Cheers

Thanks Michael! The blend shapes worked. I did have to animate into the blend shape though. For some reason the AnimWires just do not like to start at any position other than the shape they were created at.

Thanks so much!
