Starting water flow from emitter at specific frame?

I have an emitter that I want to start spraying "water" particles at frame 300 and stop at fram 600. I cannot locate a particle emission "start" and "stop" frame setting (as if it would be that easy) that my professor says should be there.

Can you explain how I would do this?

Thanks,
Bob

At frame 0, key your 'rate' at 0, move the timeline to frame 300, and set a key for 100 or whatever for the amount of particles you need, then move the timeline again to frame 600 and set a key for 0.

Ok, so I'm a noob at Maya (2013 x64 btw). When I set the key frame, the settings turn "pink" and, while I can change them, the changes appear to have no effect on the particle emitter at the desired frames.

Thanks,

You changed the frame, set the value - and then keyed again?

It's possible that you have some sort of cache set so it is reading from your cache files. You can turn off the cache in the Attribute Editor of the emitter shape.
