Maya suddenly keeps crashing when trying create a passive collider ncloth

hello. I have been using Maya's ncloth for several weeks now. I will attach a file below where ncloth is working. Recently I started working on another ncloth project. when I applied ncoth materials, when I get to the step of creating a passive collider, Or when I try to play the animation after creating the passive collider, the file crashes right away. I tried a simple scene of a plane with a ball and the ncloth worked fine so I though it might be a setting issue in my file. I reset my settings/preferences, deleted history, created a new pref folder on my computer, and tried copying the same objects from my file into a maya scene that worked, but when I get to the collider step, maya crashes.

So at this point i think it may be an issue with my passive collider object. I tried exporting it as an obj and re-importing but it doesn't help.

I'm not sure what the issue with that mesh is, because it is the same mesh as the one I used in the maya file where ncloth is working...I just cleaned up the materials.

Am attaching the working ncloth scene and the newer nclothscene that crashes. Would appreciate any help.

Hi @Anonymous,

Looks like your body mesh are not merged/fused on the borders edges.  You can try use Merge with low threshold to merge vertices that are on top of each other.  Delete the history, make passive collider.

hello, i checked out my old mesh(where the passive collider works fine) and it looks like it also has those seams in the same spot. What feature are you use in your screenshot/what were you checking for? I will try at your suggestion, thank you

Hi, selecting the vertices and merging worked! Could you explain why that matters for the passive collider to work? I didn't do this step for the first version of the model but it still worked... thanks so much.

Hi, I honestly can't tell you why your first version of the model worked, I will need to see the scene and spend time to figure out.  But nCloth/nRigid can be pretty sensitive how meshes are created.

Maya 2020 has multi-color based on shell in the UV editor, which also shows the seams.  That's what I used.
