Fluid Simulation Cache not working

I'm using a Maya Fluid simulation to create some dynamic clouds for a scene I'm working on. A character is flying through the sky, so I need it to be active so that the clouds will react as the character flies through them. Everything is how I want it, but when I try to cache the simulation, it completely breaks. The first few frames display what looks like the simulation's emission source but doesn't actually cache the simulation itself.

Here's an example of what happens:

I'm using the default fluid cache settings. I've tried fiddling with the options, but nothing seems to change anything. (I'm using Maya 2023, though the same issue was in 2022 as well)

If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears. I can't render this without the cache because of how long it would take, so I could use all the help I can get.)
Thank you!!

do you have your anim preferences set to "play every frame"? it looks like the system jumps trying to keep in realtime. if that setting is on, your system will skip frames to try to stay as close to 24 fps real time as possible. this kills dynamics calculations.

change it to "play every frame". and turn off the cache playback to let a real cache be saved into your project.
