Can't find Bifrost > Convert User Cache to PRT or bif2prt.bat

Hi there,

I'm new to bifrost, so I don't really know what I'm doing, but in the docs there is mention of the bifrost option:

Bifrost > Convert User Cache to PRT

and a batch file called

bif2prt.bat

Both of them are supposed to convert .bif files to .prt

There is no Convert User Cache to PRT in my bifrost menu, and there is no

bif2prt.bat anywhere on my system. Am I missing something?

Also, in the compute and cache do disk options, it doesn't matter what cache format I select, it always writes .bif files.

Anyone know what's going on with this?

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks again for taking the time to look into this.

Looks as though the issue I was having was with the latest version of partio on github, switched back to the last stable release and it looks as though it can process these PRTs just fine.

Sorry for the goose chase.

To recap, the whole point of figuring this out was to free up the bifrost caches to be rendered in other renderers or even brought back into Maya as a normal particle cache, and thus take advantage of the particle system features. Haven't tested everything yet, but at least viewing and converting these PRTs seems to be working now.

Very cool Cat Happy

Thanks Adrian.

Can you send me a copy of the script you use for sequences and what program you are running it in? New to scripting. Thanks. -Scott

Sorry, you mean for converting sequences?

Everything is explained in this blog post:

HI,

Can anyone help

I'm having some trouble converting Foam .bif to .prt with the Maya 2017 update 2. I'm using

Set PATH=%PATH%;C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2017\plug-ins\bifrost\devkit\bif2prt\bin

FOR %i IN (*Foam*) DO bif2prt.bat -f %i

Method and I get bif2prt: Conversion failed

Kind Regards

Oly

Hi Adrian,

I tried this and it's giving me bif2prt: file loading error but i was able to do it one file at a time converting .bif to .prt

do you know how to fix it? the frames i'm converting are like 5gb each, would be great to queued them up at the same time instead of waiting around all day...

thank you!

No sorry I'm still trying to find a work around for this. A guy at work develop a bat file that you could just double click and it would convert what ever was in the folder with it but even that doesn't any more. So it is something Autodesk need to fix. Please let me know if you have any luck

Hi

Unfortunately not if you could look at it that would be awesome for future projects. If there was something in Maya's interface that could convert them would be a dream.

I tried myself and received this error:

---------------------------
bif2prt.exe - System Error
---------------------------
The program can't start because bifrostapi.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

So I have drawn up a defect to have dev take a look at what is wrong.
