Ncloth collapsing on itself?

So I modelled this penguin and everything. When I apply ncloth and try to animate it, it just collapses on itself.
I have no idea why this is happening because I've applied ncloths to random cubes and stuff before.

It's in mid air, so I don't know how it can collapse on itself like this.

It's like there's a plane right beneath its feet, like when ground plane or a poly plane on passive collider are enabled, it just melts. When neither of those things are on, the model falls into infinity. Ahhh please help, I'm so stuck with this, I'm quite new to ncloth objects.
(I see the solver display is on the ground, I'm not sure if that means it thinks the object is on the ground?)
