BOSS + Bifröst workflow

So I wanted to take the opportunity to ask here if anyone knows the intended workflow and best practices / rules of thumb when it comes to use BOSS for doing say a boat wake, and then using that data in a bifrost sim. What is the workflow? Do i use the boss output as a guide mesh for BIF?

TBH I think there's a bit of mixed signals from AD when the latest announcement you really pushed for bifrost and a lot of people are excited but the documentation is sporadic at best, anyone I've met has no clue what to actually use boss for. It would be really cool with a tutorial for example step by step how that battleship-scene you used in the teaser was created.

Thanks for any replies/suggestions.

The "battleship" (actually a Destroyer) scene was done by Igor Zanic.

I think we all need to BEG him for a tutorial on that scene!!!!

Hi Izotripp, thanks for your post, I feel the same way stuck in a boat...pun intended.

I've been playing with Boss following Igor's tips and pieces and bits I find on the net and the docs.

I'll be working heavily on this over my 3 week  xmas hiatus and it would be great to use your post as a place for other artists to chime in with their tips so we can all progress until more information comes out from Autodesk.

I'm posting my first results here from the past weekend tests when I finally found what some of the parameters do.

Please share your tests as well.

I used Hot Ocean for Maya before on an bad animation I did last xmas but Hot Ocean could not make the waves as choppy as Boss can once you find the right combinations, I plan to re render the animation with Boss and Bifrost next time around.

I also managed to make the boat wake and will be taking into Bifrost as a guided mesh next step.

Also used the Ocean shader based on Darryl Obert video to create the boat animation floating in the water "Make Boat" function and then ignore the shader and use Vray material in my scene.....that was a nice trick tip.

So long for now and I'll be back with more info if I have.
