Time slider doesn't show during playback

When I play the animation the time slider disappears during playback:

Is this a normal thing? In every other editing program I've used this does not happen. Without seeing the time slider in the graph window during playback it makes it really hard to time the curves precisely.

Am I missing a setting or is this just another junky feature of Maya?

This is normal only. when u drag in time slider, its move.  while doing in playback its not visible.
