Parented Object Distorts When Parent Is Moved

Hello! I'm super new to Maya and am in the process of making my first model/rig from scratch for a class assignment. I have the rig functioning the way I want it to, and recently added spheres (separate from the model's base geometry) as the eyes. I then grouped the eyes under the head handle so they would move with the model. However, whenever I move or rotate the model's handles in any way that affects the eyes, the spheres become distorted. I tried grouping the eyes' handles (simple handles with an orient constraint so I could rotate the eyes) under the head handle as well, which fixes the distortion when the eye is kept in its default position. However, as soon as I try to use the handle to rotate the eye, it distorts in the same way again. I included a few screenshots below: one is of the model and eye in their default position with no distortion, one is the eye deformed when I manipulate one of the model's handles, and the other is of the eye distorting when I rotate it's own handle. If anyone could help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi!

This looks like a shearing issue. Your rig and your eyes are not in the same space, so moving the rig distorts the eyes...

Generally speaking, you should not create your rig through parenting but skinning. Skinning is designed to deal with space issues and is more realiable than parenting. Unparent your eyes from the rig, put them in a separate geometry group. Then create a joint for each eye and hook them up to the setup that currently drives your eyes, then skin each eye to the joint you for it.

I hope it helps!
