Hello everyone,

Dose Maya have a way to modify a mesh which is already skinned with weighted. In the same way it can be done in 3dMax, I apologise if this is a simple question?

Thanks

Modify by how? If you add vertices I think it won't work, because Maya assign weight maps according to vertex order, so if you try adding/deleting I guess it wont Work, I would say Export Weight maps but sadly even importing weight maps is based on the same poly count

I have a human character fully skinned and I want to move/sculpt verts to slightly modify the shape of the character.

Can this be done without unbinding the mesh or is there a way to replace the old mesh with a new mesh, but uses the same

weights.

Thanks

That is simple select your mesh and go to skin and Export Weight Maps, sculpt your mesh and rebind a skin and Go to skin and choose import weights, or you can Do to skin and open unbind skin Options and Choose Keep History, sculpt it and during rebind choose Normalize Weights to Post

But Hey, with Maya 2016 Ext 2/Maya 2017 there is Pose Space Deformer, try that tool is awesome, you sculpt on a skinned mesh

Thanks man, that works really well. I didn't know about the PSD system which is really awesome and I'm currently learning more about it.

Thanks again.
