Maya Trax Editor Won't Export Animation - "invalid file type for clip export"

Hi everyone.

So I've spent two full days trying to figure out what is going on here and I have no idea how to fix it.

I have a character downloaded from Mixamo - this character and all the animations downloaded with it work fine but I needed to combine certain parts of different animations. So off I went into Maya to do this. I've followed basically all of the tutorials I could find over the past two days and nowhere can I see what's going on.

So I have brought in my character, created a character set, brought in the animation files, made tracks from them, blended them together.

At this point I have merged them together and tried to export them through "file/export animation clip" - I have also tried exporting the merged clip through the visor. Both times I get the error message:

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/scripts/others/doExportClipArgList.mel line 69: Invalid file type for clip export: FBX export //

Whether the track is merged in the trax editor or not, it still doens't workWhether the track is merged in the trax editor or not, it still doens't work

It is the same for any of the file types I select.

In the picture provided, the animation clips were not merged in the track editor, but I assure you, I have merged them before and tried, it still didn't export.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm on a PC

Windows 8.1

AMD FX-8350 Eight Core Processor

16GB RAM

64-bit

Student version of Maya 2018.

Thanks,

Calum

Just to add to this mystery, I had a look in the "doExportClipArgList.mel" script to see what it says.

Now I have no idea what any of this means but the error was referencing line 69.

No idea if that helps anyone here?

I also noticed a part of the script mentioning exports:

Again, not sure if that will help anyone pinpoint my problem.

Thanks

Hi!

Only Maya ASCII (.ma) and Maya Binary (.mb) is supported.

Please read the Maya online help (although there is still also .mov mentioned, which is wrong)

Hi mspeer,

I tried exporting as a .mb file - the problem when I tried that was that absolutely nothing was actually exported. When I opened the file later (or tried to bring it in with the character), there was no animation present. Not sure why that was.

I'm going to give the Time Editor a try and see if that will help.

Hi!

You can try Time Editor, but Trax Editor works here too.

"nothing was actually exported"?

What does this mean?

No file, empty file (0 KB), no animation clip inside,...?

I'm having the same issue, what he means is, Maya did not create a file, no file at all.

An MB or MA file export has no data, so im guessing its an issue with selecting the anim file

timeEditorClip -populateImportedAnimSources "Baked_BakedAnimSource_Export1" -showAnimSourceRemapping -importOption "connect" -track "Jamie_For_ref_NOFM_2:Composition1:1" -startTime 66 "Walk_To_kneel_1";
// Warning: Clip was not created because no objects inside the Animation Source "Baked_BakedAnimSource_Export1" were found in the scene
// 0
// Warning: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2023/scripts/others/teAnimSourceNamespace.mel line 242: No attributes were matched. No clip created.
