Maya Node Editor issue...

Hi there.

I've been watching the "InfiniteSkills - Learning Autodesk Maya 2015" tutorial set and I've run into an issue with lesson 06_09-Node Editor. Basically, it's this: I have this crow (skinned and rigged) and I'm using the Node Editor to make one of the wing's joints automatically control the opposite wing - rotating one of the joints should automatically flap both wings. I've made the desired node connections inside the Node Editor, but the result is a bit awkward... both wings flap, but in opposite directions. 😛

I'm a rookie at Maya so, please, bare with me. Here's a pic:

I've attached the file.

Thanx.

Hi Pedro,

I was able to achieve what I think you had in mind by adding a Multiply/Divide node between l_wing and r_wing.  Keep in mind that if you pipe the l_wing rotation directly into the r_wing rotation, both wings will rotate in the same direction (as you saw.)  By adding the Multiply/Divide node and setting the conversion facter in the input side to -1 and on the output side to 1, the wings now counter-rotate towards each other (and away.)  Make sure you set the Multiply/Divide operation to multiply in the attribute editor when you do this.  See below, and attached modified scene file.

I don't remember the author doing anything like this, but is solves the problem. Thanx pshwayka! 🙂

There's probably a much easier way to do it...and now that I've shown you the hard way, someone on the forum who animates for a living will shake their head, let out a sigh,  and tell us the simple way.
