Maya fails to launch when connected to internet

In order to get Maya to launch without crashing I need to disable my network adapter or unplug the internet cord from my computer. I used to be able to just block Maya in the firewall settings, but that doesn't work anymore for some reason. It'd be nice if I could use Maya and the internet at the same time.  I am able to launch Maya with internet if join my phone's hotspot, but I don't have unlimited data so that's not viable. Any ideas on how to keep Maya from seeing the network?

In case someone runs into this problem, here's what I think fixed it for me:

1. Run Maya in Admin mode while connected to a hotspot that doesn't make it crash.

I think that's what fixed it for me, but I'm not sure. All I know is that it's working now, and I don't remember doing anything different other than that. I even tried a fresh windows installation, and that didn't fix the problem.
