Maya 2018 not exporting FBX correctly

Hi people,

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to export a rig/skinned mesh as an FBX file from Maya 2018.3. The exact same file exports without any problems in Maya 2017. Settings are the same across the board and I've tried all the flavours of the FBX exporter. The result is always the same. Maya 2018 is not picking up the fact that I have joints in the selected objects. Unreal is not seeing a skeletal mesh when I try to import it.

The joints are being controlled indirectly with various controllers and constraints, but this hasn't been a problem ever before. It's more annoying that it works in 2017 and not in 2018.

Are there any differences between the two versions of Maya's exporter that wouldn't be picking up the joints?

Thanks,

Neil

Update...

I have, now, also tried this in Maya 2018.5. Still no skeleton export.

However, Maya 2018 (student version with no updates), the file exports fine.

I deleted my Preferences folder and allowed Maya to generate a new set of Defaults.  FBX exporting now works again as expected.

Glad it's fixed, but would like to know why it went wrong in the first place, in case it happens again.
