Local Rotation Axes Bug?

Hi,

I encountered a strange behaviour of locators in my scene. I assume this might be an error that causes some resulting difficulties getting my locators and camera-data over to After Effects via Live Link. Check the video, you gonna see that the LRA is jumping, when the locator itself is moved:

So what could be the source of that behaviour? It's not effected by any deformer or something.

Hi @diemobarz

Thanks for posting and sharing that video. You're right, that is very strange behavior. Any chance you could post your scene so I can test it on my machine? If it just contained the misbehaving locators that would be just fine 🙂

Thanks again for your time! I look forward to getting this resolved!

Here you go. This file contains only the group that I use to send the location data over to AE (via export as ma-file). But even with everything else cut away that issue still persists. Could you try to bring them over to AE via Live Link? I assume this locator behaviour causes AE to hang when sending over.

Hi @diemobarz

Thanks again for posting! I followed along with your video, but was not able to reproduce the same behavior on my machine - I kept zooming out farther than the video but still wasn't able to. I'm working on Windows 10, in Maya 2018.3 (our most current available version). Can you tell me a bit more about your system?

I also recently Reset my Maya preferences to Default.

Any chance your Graphics Card Drivers need to be updated? If you have an NVidia card, you can use the handy-dandy NVidia Driver Finder tool to get the most up-to-date download.

Thanks for your time and efforts in troubleshooting this! I look forward to your reply 🙂

Ah! I spoke too soon, just after posting I zoomed out a bit more and got it to do the same thing. I'll file this as a defect internally, and make sure our developers are aware of it.

I also did a quick test with Legacy Viewport activated and can see that it is accurately drawn there. Here's how to re-activate the Legacy Viewport in Maya 2018 if you'd like to use this as a workaround for the time being 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to report this, we really appreciate it! Keep an eye on our Release Notes page to see if the fix has been implemented in the next update for  Maya.

as if those VP2.0 bugs are.. new..

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-animation-and-rigging/maya2018-u1-vp2-0-evaluation-mode-dg-time-...

Interestingly.. submitting 'bug reports' didn't help on that matter so far... and if most rigs fail with parallel evaluation and your controls go.. anywhere.. in DG mode.. you either have to use one of the legacy viewports or look for alternative packages.

a similar (but partly addressed) VP2.0 LRA issue:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-forum/bug-local-rotation-axes-not-selectable-in-maya-2018-vp2-0/...

Maybe we can see in 4-5 months when U4 eventually will be released a working VP2.0?
