How do I use animation sliders?

I saw this video and was wondering how you could do those sliders in maya?

that video is Cinema 4d but to do this in maya you want to use the hudSlider command..

  most people will just create a slider out of curves.. that looks like the viewport control. as it's  a little easier and doesn't require any scripting
