How do I move the body around independently from the body?

I'm new to modelling and rigging.

I'm trying to rig a tripod fighting machine from the war of the worlds.

but the way I've rigged it makes it so that when I move the body is all moves together like a block.

I wish for the model's body to move up and down with the legs bending appropriately.

feel free to ask questions if my question was clear. it's kinda hard to explain.

Hello,

I have checked your rig.

The skinning is fine but you did not add controls to the skeleton.
Check the scene I have sent you, and look between the nodes in the outliner to see how they are organized.

I have added one IK_handle per leg,  NURBS curves as controls.
I have attached legs K handles to feet controls with parent constraints.
I have attached the root joint to the body control with parent constraint (and scale constraint so you can scale it),

I have locked the rotation of the feet to the feet controls with orient constraint (and scale constraint so you can scale them)

finally, I have added a scale constraint from the main control to the skeleton group to make the whole rig scalable.

There are simpler ways to rig this model but keeping all the rig parts separated as I did, is very useful.

Hope this helps,

Dino
