Glitch in Maya 2019?

Hi guys,

I altered the painted weights on my skinned mesh and upon saving, get an error message and system crash.

Screen Shot 2019-03-07 at 1.33.14 PM.png

I just opened the same file in Maya 2018(.5?), and there's no problem.

As far as I can tell, any other changes I make in Maya 2019 (like key framing), don't result in this error message and crash.

Please let me know what you think,

Allie

This may be because of the different versions. Try optimizing the scene.

Thank you for the suggestion, but optimizing the scene didn't help 😕 Still coming up with an error message then crashing.

Hi @ab2762

can you explain to me a little bit about the issue and where it comes from?

Am I right with my assumption that the scene was created in Maya 2018.5 and now you want to keep working on it in Maya 2019?

Did you try the same procedure with an easy sample scene or is the issue specific to your scene?

If you want and if you can, you can also share your scene with us. Then I can have a look if I can reproduce the issue on my side.

Best, Nadja

Hi Nadja,

That is correct - created in 2018.5 and continuing in 2019.

I just opened a new scene, added a sphere/joints/skinned and painted new weights, but did not get the same error message or crash, so it must be an issue with my scene. I will send it soon.

Thanks!

Allie

Hi @ab2762 ,

I just wanted to ask if you still have issues with your painted weights?

Would be great if you let me know what the outcome of the issue is 😉

Hi!

@ab2762  and @nadja.vollrath .

There seems to be a bug in Maya 2019 that leads to a crash when leaving the Paint Skin Weights Tool.

The problem seems to be related to scene-content + Evaluation Mode "Parallel" (maybe caused by updates to the Viewport / changes made for Cached Playback in Maya 2019).

As a workaround try Evaluation Mode "DG" in Maya 2019

I also highly recommend to send your scene to support, so they can check this.

Please report this problem (bug?) to Autodesk.
In Maya main menu:
Help -> Speak Back -> Report a Problem

Hi!

@nadja.vollrath  and @ab2762

I figured it out, it's a bug in Maya 2019.

Viewport 2.0

+ Evaluation Mode "Parallel"

+ animated joints (keys)

+ active Smooth Mesh Preview on skinned Object

1.  use Paint Skin Weights on skinned Object

2. Leave Paint Skin Weights tool

=> Crash

Hi @ab2762 and @mspeer ,

would it be possible to send me a scene showing the problem.

Then I can report it directly to our development team.

Thanks, Nadja

Hi!

@nadja.vollrath

Based on the provided information it should be possible to create a test scene in Maya 2019 within a few seconds,

but anyway i attached a simple test scene.

It's all set for crashing except for EM "Parallel", which is a user/system setting.

1. Select "pTorus1"

2. Skin -> Paint Skin Weights

3. Leave Paint Skin Weights tool

=> crash

If you remove or change any of the mentioned features it will work without crash, like:

- Switching to EM "DG"

- Disabling Smooth Mesh Preview

- Using a skeleton without any keys

- Using Legacy Viewport

Please report back if you can reproduce this behavior.

!!! One important information, maybe a hint for the developers:

Removing keys on the skeleton after opening the scene with EM "Parallel" will not prevent the crash, you have to create new joints or

open the scene with EM "DG", delete the keys and then you can enable EM "Parallel".

Hi @ab2762 and @mspeer

thanks a lot for your scenes.

I can reproduce this issue on both scenes.

I will now report it to our development team.

Hi!

This does not help, but it doesn't matter, as the bug is already fixed in Maya 2019.2 .
