Extruding on a curve doesn't create subcurve1 or 2

I'm trying to do a basic vine animation where an extruded mesh along a curve grows using max value setting within the subcurve1 and 2 but when I create the extrusion, nothing shows up in the channel box input except the extrude1. I've tried this on two computers and I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Could you record a video or give a more detailed step by step of what you are doing? Because it sounds like you are doing the right thing so you are probably just missing a step somewhere along the way.

The sub-curve nodes appear when you select "partial" as Curve range option.
