Error when importing FBX rig

I'm trying to import an .FBX rigged character into Maya for animation but I keep getting an error window that says

"The FBX plug-in has detected Non-uniform scaling values. The following nodes (or their parents,) have non-standard Maya scaling inheritance (RSrs). The plug-in will re-compute their local transforms to match their correct global transforms and re-plot the transform animation frame by frame. These nodes might have interactive behavior in Maya that differs from the source application."

When I close the window the rig no longer matches up with the model.

Is there a way to fix this?

This page explans what the different scale inheritance behaviors mean. If you're the one who made the fbx you may be able to change the export settings to use the same scale inheritance as maya. Otherwise you'll need to come up with a script to fix in the scaling after you import the fbx.
