When exporting animated curve extrusion to fbx, it doesn't seem to play animation. What is the best way to animate curve and export to FBX?

I have this same issue/question.  I have followed examples on YouTube where a nurbs circle is extruded along a curve and then animated by setting the key frames.  It plays fine in Maya, but when I export this to an FBX file, I see no animation - I see the complete extruded object.  The only FBX animation I've been successful with is animating a polygon along a curve.  This saves fine to an FBX file.  So, I'm not sure if any experts here are able to help with this, or whether this is just a limitation of nurbs?

Thanks.

Most likely, you won't be able to export any construction history (eg Extrude Nurbs/Polygons) to FBX. Imagine, it is middleman format, where you can export a complex node network, that works in Maya, so what are odds it will work also imported into Max or Unity.. rather none, for the year 2021.

What works, are skinClusters and splineIK, where for the extruded spline illusion you can bind a cylinder to a chain of joints, add splineIk, deform the created curve and animate the scale.x of all the joints from 0.001 to 1.000

Thank you very much for the explanation.  I will investigate the SplineIK as you mentioned.
