Broken Hand Joints on Blend Shapes on Arm

I have a character with a blend shapes on his arms that make them squash and stretch.

When I turn on the squashed blend and try to move the joints in the hands, they screw up, however in the regular state they do just fine. I think this is because the joints were made to be in the regular position, but I thought blend shapes could work around the original position of joints.

I guess I should have made the arm joints stretchy when building the rig, but I'm way past that. If there is a way to change the arm size without affecting the hand, that would be great.

Attached are pics. The first is the broken one when the arm short, second one is when the arm is long (ignore that the hand and arm don't connect here)

Really hoping for some help on this one.

I'm guessing I could make another blend shape for the hand when the arm is shrunk, but then again there are many positions the hand can make so not sure how good that is.

Hey @lms2k

To be honest with you, the stretchy effect people do for the arms is by the scale of the joints with other nodes added.

To resolve your issue, I feel without looking at the actual file its an inputs problem.. right mouse click on the geometry and go to Inputs>All inputs... from there middle mouse drag the inputs around in which you should only have a bind and a blenshape one... if that doesn't work let me know so I can look into it more!

Hey thanks so much for the reply!

I will look into this other workflow you mentioned with the scale in the future.

When I look at all my inputs, I have a skin cluster, 2 blend shapes and a tweak.

I had this idea of hooking up the arm joints to a control that translates them to scrunch everything. Not sure if that's a dirty way to get it done, and truthfully it sounds like much work for something I don't crucially need.
