Binding skin to control rig

I started modeling in Maya like 4 days ago and I have one stupid question. I made a skeleton and then locked it in control rig. So now I want to bind that rig to an object (simple model of a robot) but when I go to Skin > Bind i get a warrning message saying Skin is being bound to the FK rig. When i try rotating joints my model isn't moving. And one more thing, how do I make a character from a model ?

When you're doing the bind you should only select the skeleton and the model. Are you doing this? If no, please give us some more information on the steps you're going through that gives you this issue.

What do you mean "make a character from a model"?

Hello There I have a queston,

I have found a few rigged models and have downloaded the.

When i apply character control of the rigged character it asks me to define the rig first so i have matched the current rig with the defination and then apply control on it... make animation and its so good.

I export that in FBX... and when i import it back the skin is not attacched to rig.... and the annimation is just moving bones...

when i try to connect the rig with skin it gives me warning that the skin is being bound to FK rig.... and it does not binf it.....
so the exported model doe not even work in maya...

Please help

I've got this same issue. I made a quick rig and bound it to my model through the same quick rig menu (not skin>bind or whatever). Once I painted weights and animated it, I had forgotten to delete some transformation in the history and couldn't export it. Once I deleted that history it unbound from the model and I couldn't rebind it. Anyone know how to rebind it?

You cant rotate joints if its connected to an FK controller, try rotating the controller to deform the mesh. Try sharing an .ma file for more assists.

Are you talking about Human IK ? You mentioned creating a character.
