Auto-Rig Error

Hi I am just trying out the Auto-Rig on a basic character I created. But I can't seem to get anything to work. I have tried another mesh I made as well. I keep getting an error;

Unable to create guides:

Unable to perform discrete embedding.

Try using a different skeleton embedding method or a different mesh.

I'm not sure what is causing this so I need some help. Thanks

Hi,

Is your mesh a full biped mesh?  I only see an upper body.   This might be the problem.  To see the Auto-Rig working, you can try it on one of the biped characters contained in Windows < General Editors < Content Browser < Bipeds folder.

If you wish to send me your mesh, I can take a look.

Thabks for the reply. Yes is a full biped mesh. However when I import it is is laying down and I rotated it 90 to stand him up. Could that be the issue?

I am pretty new around Maya.

I'd love for you to check it however I won't be able to send it until later.

Hi thanks again for your help. So I figured out what was my problem but I am not sure how to fix it.

When I import my model its laying on the X axis. And if I don't adjust its position the auto rig tool works fine. Pic 1

However if I rotate him on the X to make him stand up I get that error in Pic 2

I am pretty new with Maya still so an explanation would be wonderful. Thank you again!

Hi!

Is there a reason you use Z-up instead of Y-up (Maya default) for your World Coordinate System?

Using Y-up should remove the problem:

Hi thanks for the reply. I actually didn't intend to use anything specifically. I'm not actually sure the difference. I'm use to using goZ to bring my organic meshes into maya and have never attempted a character before.

How would I go about changing my world coordinates?

Thanks that is actually what was giving me grief. Not sure how it was switched but that fixed it. Thank you.
