Audio Scrubbing not working in Maya 2019.1

Is audio scrubbing broken in Maya 2019.1?

I have the same audio working in Maya 2018. I can scrub the timeline. However, in 2019.1 it is does not work. I can playback in real time fine. But I can't scrub.

Any thoughts?

William

Hi!

No problem here with Maya 2019.1 on Windows for scrubbing with sound.

But sound playback does not seem to work when Evaluation Mode is set to "DG".

Thanks for your response.

Here is what I gather thus far:

I tried Maya 2019.1 on another machine (an older machine) an it scrubs audio fine.

I reset my preferences on the machine that doesn't give me scrubbing and it still does not work.

I am wonder if there is a conflict somewhere on the machine either software or hardware. Bear in mind, audio playback is fine, but I just can't scrub and hear any audio.

It would help to understand what's the difference Maya uses for audio when scrubbing or just playing back.

This newer machine (the one with the audio scrubbing problem) doesn't have any exotic hardware or software that could interfere with hearing the scrubbing in Maya.

I can hear playback no matter what the evaluation mode is set. DC, Parallel or Serial

Any other thoughts?

Update: Additional information.

I discovered that I can scrub the audio in the Trax Editor okay. But still can't do it in the timeline.

I reinstalled Maya 2019.1 and still have the same issue.

Help anyone? It is really hard to animation talking characters without using the timeline.

1. You can try reset Maya, copy 2018 setting folder to 2019.1. Use 2018 setting in 2019.1

2. Reinstall Audio driver.

I updated the audio drivers.

I reset Maya

I even trying scrubbing audio in a fresh install of Maya 2018.6

All of the above did not help. This is really strange. If I open the Trax editor and scrub there, it works in both 2019.1 and 2018.6. But when I try scrubbing from the timeline, I hear nothing. I can play the audio from the timeline fine but no scrubbing. What is unique about scrubbing in the timeline (and not work) versus playing or using the Trax editor (which does work in hearing the audio)?

I guess it's strange sound card or sound card driver compatibility issue. I couldn't find useful information about it. If you have an external sound card you can try it on this computer. But I'm not sure if it is helpful.

Thanks for looking into this for me. I eventually reinstalled windows and everything is working as expected. Not sure what the issue was but it works now and that works for me.

Hi!

Thanks for the update.

Just as info: I was not able to reproduce the problem with EM "DG" on my system anymore.

It worked in "DG" on a different system here as well.

Okay, I just couldn't let it go.

I found the issue and solution but I would like to someone else to see if the can reproduce the bug.

The issue is that the plugin "Timeline Marker" from the Autodesk App Store kills your ability to scrub audio in the timeline.  The plugin works fine and is quite useful other then you can't scrub audio in the timeline. That's a nonstarter for me. Solution is the remove the plugin. Now I am a happy animator!

Please someone give it a shot and post. Thanks!

After you import your audio, RMB click on the timeline, then go to "Sound" then choose your audio file from the contextual menu. I hope this will work. And please make sure to use "Real time" playback speed.

I was a plugin bug. The solution is to remove the plugin.

I have the same problem too!

In Parallel mode audio playback works, but scrubbing doesnt.

In DG, audio playback doesnt work, but scrubbing does

Hello I seem to have found a solution that works!

1) Edit/Preferences > Animation > Evaluation Mode: DG (this should allow audio when scrubbing)
2) Right click TimeSlider > Play back speed: Realtime

3) Right click TimeSlider > Cached Playback > Uncheck it (this allowed playback when pressing play for me)
4) Try restarting Maya

Hopefully this works for the rest too! Seems like it could be an issue with the cached data interfering.
